Prepare the following:
- Your South African ID number (or permanent resident details)
- An active cellphone number
- An email address you can access

Step-by-step: how to apply for NSFAS
Step 1: Go to the myNSFAS portal
Open the official site:
https://my.nsfas.org.za
Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
If you don’t already have one:
- Register using your ID number
- Create login details
- Verify your account
Step 3: Log in and start your application
When applications are open:
- Log in
- Select Apply
- Start a new application
Step 4: Enter your personal details
Fill in all required information carefully:
- Names and surname
- Contact details
- Address information
Step 5: Enter household information
NSFAS may assess household income and circumstances. Answer honestly and accurately.
Step 6: Upload documents (if requested)
NSFAS may ask you to upload documents depending on your situation.
Upload:
- Clear documents
- Not blurry
- Not cut off
Missing or unclear documents can delay or reject your application.
Step 7: Submit your application
Before submitting:
- Double-check all information
- Confirm uploads (if any)
- Submit and wait for confirmation
Step 8: Track your application
Log in to myNSFAS regularly to:
- Check your status
- See if documents are requested
- View your final outcome
What happens after you apply?
Your application may show statuses such as:
- Submitted
- Under review
- Provisionally funded
- Unsuccessful
Each stage can take time. Be patient, but keep checking.
If your application is rejected
You may be allowed to submit an appeal (if the appeal window is open).
